Miss Fogarty's Christmas cake

Miss Fogarty’s Christmas cake is quite a treat. A cake to be remembered, if we are to believe the lyrics. Miss Fogarty’s Christmas cake has become part of the folklore of Christmas and has been preformed many times. It was composed by Frank Horn in Pennsylvania in 1883. Now arranged for piano trio, but we include the lyrics. Who knows the audience wants to join in....

There were plums and prunes and cherries,
There were citrons and raisins and cinnamon, too
There was nutmeg, cloves and berries
And a crust that was nailed on with glue
There were caraway seeds in abundance
Such that work up a fine stomach ache
That could kill a man twice after eating a slice
Of Miss Fogarty's Christmas cake.
